The roots of Lynyrd Skynyrd and ZZ Top shelves late ‘ 60, when shaggy young members of the bands that were honing their sound in the respective local bars, the edge of a knife is what twins in the whole world phenomena of Southern Rock and would soon be Texas Boogie.

Together, hit the tour “Rebels & Bandoloeros” the bands Times Union Center on Saturday for a trip in time to the days when visnethempjes was sitting between the legs of the driver and MTV ruled the radio.

Lynyrd Skynyrd

Name origin: Leonard Skinner was a very strict gym teacher at the high school of the school of Jacksonville, Florida, the founding members. It was not a fan of long hair, which is why the band (first yard of my house called) has her name in jest, with the only spelling in imitation of a deep South tend to be vocal planas. Skinner died last September.

* Members: Guitarist Gary Rossington is the only founding members in the line of the band. Singer Ronnie Van Zant, died in a plane crash in 1977, which is also the life of the brothers (guitar), Steve and Cassie Gaines (requires voice). The younger brother of Van Zant, Johnny, has sung with the Group since 1987. Of the original members, guitarist Allen Collins died of pneumonia in 1990, followed by bassist Leon Wilkeson in 2001; and keyboardist Billy Powell in 2009. Last year, the band served as a sort of clearing house for other southern rock guitarists, including Ed King (Strawberry Alarm Clock) and the deceased Hughie Thomasson (outlaws). Former guitarist Rickey Medlocke Blackfoot briefly played drums with the band in 1970 and lead with the Group has played since 1996.

Song: “Sweet Home Alabama,” which rose in not. 8 in 1974, the band in the national map. It was a reaction pointed on the tracks “Alabama” and the “man of the South” by Neil Young and the opening riff was studied by bands of garage everywhere.

* Controversy: sixth album of the band, “Street survivors”, was released on October 18, 1977. It includes a song about the death called “that smell” and the cover features the members of the band in flames. Inside the jacket was an order for a “lynyrd skynyrd survival kit” form. Band plane that crashed, three band members dead and injured on October 20, 1977. The album was quickly changed illustrations.

* Cultural significance: as recently as a decade ago, rock bean Skynyrd was exerts a major influence in an unexpected place: Nashville. There is very little influence to be heard on the radio these days, but you can be sure that some idiot on the right of the side will be shouting “freebird” next time we enjoy a quiet moment concert in the egg.
